Nikolaos Skartsis, M.D., Ph.D. obtained his MD/ PhD degree from University of Patras Medical School- affiliate of John's Hopkins Medical School and pursued a Post-Doctoral research fellowship in transplant immunology at Harvard Medical School. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center before undertaking fellowship training in Nephrology at  University of California San Francisco.

The main focus of my research is on transplant immunology. Our goal is to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms that promote the survival and function of regulatory T cells and the establishment of transplant tolerance. Understanding the mechanisms of regulatory T cell survival and function will help design highly efficacious cell therapies in transplantation.
